A Wisconsin Adventure

     Day Three

It’s the day after our visit to the Dells and “America’s Largest Waterpark.” Ally and I are once again northbound on scenic Highway 12. It’s approaching dinnertime.

Our destination is the village of Roxbury and a favorite German restaurant there, the Dorf Haus. It’s a quaint local establishment that has been in business for over half a century.

After a leisurely drive through the rural countryside, we arrive and find the main parking lot nearly full. We join a stream of other guests as they stroll to the entrance. Inside, the clamor of numerous conversations and the varied aromas of authentic German cuisine fill the air. We are without a reservation, and we learn that the wait time to be seated is ninety minutes. The friendly hostess graciously offers to add us to the waiting list.  We accept, then return to the car.

We visit nearby Sauk City, along the Wisconsin River. After a stop at the Piggly Wiggly, we window shop along Water Street.

When we arrive back at the Dorf Haus, the crowd has thinned.

We are ushered to a cozy table. We order, and dinner is soon served.

    It is worth the wait.

              Day 4.
